Double-low rape "one dish dual use" technology
In recent years, the "double-low rape" vegetable and dual-use planting model has shown promising results in increasing agricultural income. This innovative approach allows for the extraction of approximately 250 kilograms of moss per mu, generating an income of 250 to 300 yuan. Additionally, the yield of rapeseed increases by about 10 kilograms per mu, adding another 30 to 50 yuan to the revenue. As a result, the net income per mu rises by 280 to 300 yuan. This year, the province has promoted this technique across 500,000 mu, with individual regions such as Xinzhou, Tianmen, Xiantao, Jiayu, and Xian'an each adopting 10,000 mu of this model.
The harvested rapeseed meets national double-low standards and has helped develop 2 to 3 successful vegetable chop brands, creating a combined economic impact of 140 million yuan. The success of this model lies in its efficient use of land and resources, making it a sustainable and profitable option for farmers.
Key technical points include selecting fertile soil with good drainage and irrigation systems, ensuring protection against drought and flooding. Farmers should choose high-quality double-low rapeseed varieties known for strong growth, early maturity, and good regenerative ability, such as Huaza No.6, No.8, No.10, Zhongyouza No.4, and Zhongshuang No.9. Using high-purity, low-generation seeds is also essential for optimal results.
Transplanting seedlings and arranging sowing and planting periods appropriately is crucial. For example, cotton pods are typically sown and planted in mid to early September and late October, while the moss is harvested at the end of February. Double-cropping rice pod varieties are planted around the same time and harvested in February of the following year. Moss plants can be sown around August 25 or early August, allowing for harvest during the Spring Festival period.
The planting density should be adjusted based on soil conditions. Good cotton and medium-grain rapeseed should be transplanted at a density of 0.5 to 0.6 thousand plants per mu, while late rice and poor soil areas require higher densities, ranging from 0.65 to 0.75 thousand plants per mu.
Fertilization must be done carefully. A base fertilizer should be applied, including 60-70 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, 40-50 kg of superphosphate, 10 kg of potassium chloride, and 1.5 kg of boron fertilizer per mu. Early top dressing with 5-7.5 kg of urea per mu helps promote seedling growth. A heavy application of wax fertilizer before the winter solstice is recommended, along with additional organic fertilizer and 10 kg of urea. Before harvesting the moss, 5-7.5 kg of urea per mu should be applied 7-10 days in advance to enhance yield and quality.
Finally, strict control over the picking standards is necessary. Moss should be harvested at a height of 25-30 cm, while the younger shoots should be picked at 15-20 cm to ensure quality and sustainability. This comprehensive approach ensures both environmental and economic benefits, making the double-low rape and dual-use planting model a valuable addition to modern agriculture.
