Double-low rape "one dish dual use" technology
In recent years, the "double-low rape" vegetable and dual-use planting model has proven to be a highly effective agricultural approach. With this method, approximately 250 kilograms of moss can be harvested per mu, generating an income of 250 to 300 yuan. At the same time, the yield of rapeseed increases by about 10 kilograms, bringing in an additional 30 to 50 yuan. As a result, the net income per mu rises by 280 to 300 yuan. This year, the province has promoted the model across 500,000 mu, with each of the regions such as Xinzhou, Tianmen, Xiantao, Jiayu, and Xian’an implementing it on 10,000 mu. The harvested rapeseed meets the national double-low standard, and the region has successfully developed 2 to 3 vegetable chop brands, achieving a synergistic economic impact of 140 million yuan.
Technical guidelines for the model include selecting fertile soil with good drainage and irrigation systems, as well as areas that are resistant to drought and flooding. It is recommended to use high-quality double-low rapeseed varieties with strong growth potential, early maturation, and good regenerative capacity, such as Huaza No.6, No.8, No.10, Zhongyouza No.4, and Zhongshuang No.9. High-purity, low-generation seeds should be used to ensure optimal results.
Transplanting seedlings is an essential step, and the sowing and planting periods should be carefully arranged. Cotton pods are typically sown and planted in mid to early September and late October, respectively, while the moss is harvested at the end of February. For the double-cropping rice system, pod cultivars are planted in mid to early September and late October, and they are harvested in February of the following year. Moss can be planted around August 25 or in mid-August, and it can be picked during the Spring Festival period.
The planting density should be adjusted based on the fertility of the land. For good cotton and medium-grain rapeseed, a transplanting density of 0.5–0.6 thousand plants per mu is suitable, while for late rice blast and poor fields, the density should be increased to 0.65–0.75 thousand plants per mu.
Fertilization should be done reasonably, including base fertilizer, top dressing, wax fertilizer, and nourishing moss. In moderately fertile soils, enough base fertilizer should be applied, such as 60–70 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, 40–50 kg of superphosphate, 10 kg of potassium chloride, and 1.5 kg of boron fertilizer per mu. Early top dressing should be done after transplanting, applying 5–7.5 kg of urea to promote seedling growth. A heavy application of wax fertilizer should be made before the winter solstice, adding more than 60 kg of miscellaneous fertilizer and 10 kg of urea. Before harvesting the moss, apply 5–7.5 kg of urea per mu 7–10 days in advance to enhance quality.
Finally, strict control over the picking standards is crucial. Moss should be picked at a height of 25 to 30 centimeters, while the leaves should be harvested at 15 to 20 centimeters. These practices ensure both high yield and superior quality, making the model a sustainable and profitable choice for farmers.
