Appearance and Prevention of Sticking Mushrooms
The sticking mushroom typically develops between the inner surface of the culture bag and the growing medium. These mushrooms are usually small in size and lack commercial value. However, during their growth, they absorb a significant amount of moisture and nutrients, which can negatively affect the development of the fruiting bodies on the surface of the culture bag. As a result, the fruiting bodies may grow slowly or not at all. In severe cases, no primordium (the initial stage of mushroom formation) is formed on the surface of the cultivation bag.
The main causes of sticking mushrooms include an improperly sealed or unevenly filled culture bag, which can create gaps between the bag and the substrate. Additionally, if the moisture content of the culture material is too low, the bacterial tube may shrink, leading to separation between the bag and the material. During handling or bagging processes, careless operations can cause the bag to rupture, further increasing the likelihood of sticking mushrooms forming.
To prevent this issue, it's essential to ensure proper bagging techniques are followed. Workers should handle the bags with care to avoid damage. If the culture material lacks sufficient moisture, leading to separation between the material and the bag, irrigation can be used to rehydrate the substrate, allowing it to expand and reattach to the bag. Maintaining consistent moisture levels and careful handling throughout the process are key to minimizing the occurrence of sticking mushrooms.
