Early spring gosling feeding management technology

When selecting goslings, look for those that are active, have bright eyes, and respond quickly. Strong young geese should have firm, upright feathers, and when held by the neck, their feet should contract swiftly. Avoid weak or underdeveloped goslings with a bloated belly or poor vitality.

The ideal temperature for goslings varies with age: 25°C to 28°C for the first 1 to 5 days, 23°C to 26°C for days 6 to 10, 20°C to 24°C for days 11 to 20, and 17°C to 20°C for those over 21 days old. Maintaining proper temperature is crucial for their health and growth.

Feeding should be done regularly, using a "little and often" approach. On the first day after hatching, offer water before feeding them soaked rice mixed with soft vegetables. In the first two days, feed them 4 to 5 times daily. By days 4 to 10, increase feedings to 5 to 7 times. The diet should consist of 35% concentrated feed and 65% vegetables. From day 11 to 20, green materials should make up the majority of their diet. After 21 days, switch to cereal-based feed and feed them 4 to 5 times per day.

Grouping goslings properly is essential. Since each batch may have large, medium, or small individuals, they should be separated into groups based on size and strength to ensure even growth. Keep brooding groups small—around 50 to 80 goslings each—and check them frequently during the day and night. Handle the goslings gently 4 to 5 times a day to prevent them from piling up, which can lead to cold stress or overheating.

Timely grazing is important for their development. After each meal, allow them to rest and move around every hour to help regulate body temperature and release moisture. Starting at 7 days old, choose sunny and breezy days to take them to a clean, shallow pond. Begin with short sessions and keep the area close by to avoid exhaustion.

Disease prevention is critical. Goslings have weak immune systems, so maintaining clean living conditions is vital. Regularly clean the pens, replace bedding, and scrub feed troughs with alkaline water once a week. During the brooding period, focus on preventing diseases like gosling flu and gosling plague, as these can spread quickly and be fatal if not managed properly.
