Early spring gosling feeding management technology

When selecting goslings, it's important to choose those that are lively, have bright eyes, and show quick reactions. Strong young geese should have firm and powerful feathers, with their feet contracting quickly when they lift their necks. Weak or underdeveloped goslings, such as those with soft bodies or poor appetites, should be culled early to ensure the health of the rest of the flock.

The ideal temperature for goslings varies depending on their age. For the first 1 to 5 days, keep the temperature between 25°C and 28°C. From day 6 to 10, maintain it around 23°C to 26°C. Between 11 to 20 days, the temperature should be between 20°C and 24°C. After 21 days, the temperature can be gradually lowered to 17°C to 20°C.

Feeding should be done regularly, and a frequent small-portion feeding method is recommended. Within 24 hours of hatching, goslings should be given clean water before being fed soaked rice and finely chopped greens. In the first two days, feed them 4 to 5 times a day. As they grow, increase the number of feedings to 5 to 7 times daily between 4 to 10 days old. The diet should consist of 35% concentrated feed and 65% vegetables. From 11 to 20 days, green materials should make up the majority of their diet. After 21 days, switch to a cereal-based feed and continue feeding 4 to 5 times per day.

It's essential to separate goslings into groups based on size, strength, and growth rate. This helps ensure even development and better management. Keep each group small, ideally between 50 to 80 birds. Regularly inspect the groups during both day and night, and handle the goslings gently 4 to 5 times a day to prevent them from piling up, which can lead to cold stress or overheating.

Allowing goslings to graze is important for their health. After eating, let them move around every hour to help regulate body temperature and expel moisture. Starting at 7 days old, take them out on sunny and windy days to a clean, shallow pond. Begin with short sessions and keep the area close by to avoid overexertion.

Disease prevention is crucial for goslings, as they have weak immune systems. Keep the pens clean, replace bedding frequently, and scrub the feeding troughs with alkaline water once a week. During the brooding period, focus on preventing and controlling diseases like gosling flu and gosling plague. Regular monitoring and good hygiene practices are key to maintaining a healthy flock.
