US InMat company said that the company developed a water-based nanocomposite coating that can be applied to flexible packaging, its name is Nanolok WR 20135a, the coating has characteristics of light weight, cost reduction, high oxygen barrier performance, high moisture resistance.

At a relative humidity of 0-85, the oxygen barrier performance of coatings in the 1 micron range is four times that of PVDC-coated PET, and at a relative humidity of 85, the oxygen barrier performance is twice that of PVDC-coated PET. At a relative humidity of 85,40C, its moisture resistance is comparable to PVDC-coated PET. Its oxygen barrier performance is ~10x times that of EVOH (EVAL E) coating and its moisture resistance is 40 times that of EVOH (EVAL E) coating.

InMat Chairman and CEO Harris A. Goldberg said that the coating improves the moisture resistance of the flexible packaging, which allows the flexible packaging to play its role in maintaining product quality and maintaining shelf life.
