For cucumber cultivation, farmers selected paddy fields with rich soil, good drainage, and irrigation systems. They chose high-yield, high-quality varieties such as Changchun Honeysuckle and Green King, which are also cold-resistant. In early February, large arch greenhouses of 0.4 to 0.5 mu were set up. Before planting, 2,500 kg of organic manure, 50 kg of compound fertilizer, and 15 kg of urea were applied as base fertilizer. Seedlings were raised in mid-February and transplanted in early March. Twenty days before transplanting, the greenhouses were prepared with rows spaced 70 cm apart, 50 cm between rows, and 25 cm between plants, resulting in about 4,500 plants per acre. After planting, mulch was laid, and temperature and ventilation were carefully managed according to weather conditions. By May, the plastic cover was removed, and the plants were moved to open-air management. Farmers paid close attention to controlling diseases like downy mildew and gray mold. Harvesting typically ended around June 20th. For rice, varieties like Xudao No. 3, Xudao No. 4, and Yanjing No. 8 were preferred for their high yield. Before sowing, seeds were soaked or treated with 100 grams of imidacloprid. The fertilizer bed method combined with flooding was used, with planting completed by May 5th. Farmers focused on cultivating strong seedlings and preventing excessive growth. Planting was finished by late June, with 25,000 to 28,000 holes per acre. Throughout the growing season, population cultivation techniques were applied, and careful attention was given to managing pests and diseases such as rice stripe disease, blast, and leaf rollers. Harvesting took place at the end of October. Spinach cultivation began with drought- and cold-resistant, fast-growing varieties like Shuangcheng Tip Leaf and Qingdao Spinach. About 5 to 6 kg of seeds were sown in the paddy field approximately 15 days before the rice harvest, with special care taken to protect the seedlings from waterlogging and maintain insulation. After the rice was harvested, 2,000 kg of compost was applied per acre to enrich the soil and preserve the young spinach plants. Twenty to thirty days before harvest, urea was applied as topdressing, and proper watering was maintained. Small arch greenhouses were used for insulation. Spinach was harvested in batches around New Year’s Day, with the last harvest occurring by the end of January. This diversified approach ensures year-round production and maximizes land use efficiency.
